I’ve been a bit slack with lugging the ‘ol 5D around lately. To be honest, knowing I’ve got the nifty little iPhone 6 camera at the ready 24/7 makes things a lot easier. I can cart it to the beach and not be worried about sand and water, throw it in my bag and not have to worry about it taking a beating and let’s not forget that it’s a good 1.5kg lighter than the Canon.
The only thing is that I never get around to printing them. Much like my Canon pics they tend to sit on the phone forever.
So I’m starting a new thing! My “On my iPhone” posts that I will (try to) upload weekly to give a little more glimpse into what we’ve been up to.
First up, New Year’s Eve. We all headed out to the Beach House. I can’t tell you how excited we will be to finally move out there but until our current house sells we’ll be making do with as many visits out there as possible. NYE seemed like the perfect excuse for a mini house-warming and get together. Matt’s side and mine came together for a bbq dinner and to see in the new year.
Mum brought along this stand up tennis game for the kids and talk about flash back! Courtney and I had one just like it growing up. The kids enjoyed it, but not more than the adults did!
At 9pm we wandered down to the beach (I still have to pinch myself with how close we are) and watched the fireworks. Happy New Year, folks!
We got the kids these skim boards for Christmas deciding for things they could use as opposed to general toys for the sake of toys. Hands down, best investment ever although they highlight the need for us to increase our cardio fitness, greatly! Poor Uncle Marty was absolutely knackered after whizzing Raffo down the beach new year’s day. I don’t think the late night and numerous beers of the evening before helped either.
About 20 minutes after he was hooting with joy. Raff totally lost his bananas and wanted to go home. Poor boy, he’d had an exceptionally late night the night before and he’s like his mother…doesn’t do well on no sleep. We ditched the others at the beach, scootered home and enjoyed a shower, smarties and How to Train Your Dragon. It was nice grabbing a minute with him and relaxing.
Willow lost another tooth on new year’s day! This time a top one, which she was mighty proud of and wanted to display to it’s best. I got a little choked up when this one came out. I’ve been dealing with her losing the bottom ones but the top ones? A whole other story. STOP GROWING UP!
This is Raff enjoying our new shower. Well, technically it’s a very old shower but this kid loves a bath and refuses to stand under the shower head so for now, it’s staying. He’d lie like this for an hour if I let him. And I’d let him (because it gives me soooo much quiet time) but I’m always paranoid he’ll drown, despite hearing him shriek and splash around like there’s no tomorrow.
Raff and I got busy in the kitchen. We have approximately 3514354 chopped up frozen mangos in our freezer thanks to the trees and needed to start doing something with them. I found a great recipe that we tried out that is easy and fructose free. Grab yourself a 400ml coconut cream, a tablespoon of rice malt syrup and some chopped mango. Whizz together in a blender then pour into moulds and freeze. They taste great and I’m already planning to test them out with other fruit such as raspberries or strawberries.
Lastly, we took these three to the movies today to see The Good Dinosaur. Was a slightly darker movie than I had anticipated and we ended up with Willow and Raff sitting on our laps (Rem’s was totally cool about it) but it made for a nice morning out of the house and in the air-conditioning.
We are all back into our regular programming tomorrow – work, kindy, vacation care. I can’t believe that Christmas and New Year are over for 2015.
Hope you’ve all had a brilliant time off and have managed to soak up some time with some family and friends.
